Mitsubishi drops LCD TV's and will focus on 73" plus sets

Mitsubishi has announced they will stop producing LCD TV sets and focus on large 73" plus televisions. The new lineup will consist of micro rear projection displays and their Laservue technology. Press release below.

Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc. is restructuring the company and refocusing its business
strategy to offer a wide range of visual solutions for large-screen devices. 

The goal is to reclaim our position as the "large screen" company. To that end, on the Audio Visual (AV) side of our business, we will manufacture and sell micro-display projection televisions (MDPTVs) and Laservue televisions in sizes 73" and above. On the Professional Visual Systems (PVS) side, the company will concentrate on projector sales, display wall, printers and large public display screens. It also plans to expand its PVS business to Central and South America.

MDEA plans to exit the LCD-TV market entirely. Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America will reduce its workforce accordingly. Its offices in Ontario and Braselton will close. All services will relocate to Irvine, CA. Its factory in Mexicali, Mexico will reduce its workforce as well. The factory will continue to manufacture and assemble large-screen televisions. 

The company is evaluating its dealer network to match its new product offerings to appropriate distribution channels.

LCD vs LED Televisions. What’s the difference?

You may have recently discovered that many newer televisions have an LED (Light Emitting Diode) display. LED TVs are the latest generation of LCD flat panel displays and offer noticeable improvements in picture quality over the traditional fluorescent bulb backlit panel.

LED TVs are technically a member of the LCD family because both ordinary LCD TVs and LED TVs have the same liquid crystal display. The difference between the two is in the way they are backlit. LED TVs offer much improved backlighting techniques which changes the picture quality drastically.

You may have also noticed that the LED TV is much slimmer. LED TVs have the capability to by manufacture in much slimmer sizes than traditional LCD televisions.

The slim design of the LED TVs is not the only advantage over the traditional LCD TV. The backlighting on the LED televisions is much more accurate in terms of black levels, and color. There is a much wider range of viewable colors on LED TVs. This results in much more realistic colors when compared to the technology of traditional LCD TVs.

Picture Differences
Ordinary LCD displays handle black levels much differently than LED displays. The main difference is that traditional LCD TVs always have the backlight on and have to twist the crystals into a closed position to create black areas. This often results in a loss of detail and a lower contrast ratio. Some LED TVs use local dimming to handle black levels. This technology offers a much improved way of handling black levels. Backlighting can be controlled in dark areas of the picture, resulting in better detail and darker blacks in dark scenes. In some dark scenes, LED TVs have the capability of completely switching of the light in areas where a pure black is intended.

Another thing to note is that LED TVs do a much better job over traditional LCD TVs in terms of the viewing angle. Traditional LCDs lose contrast when viewing from an angle. LED technology has improved that significantly.

Plasma TVs LCD – Which is Better?

When it comes to Home Theater discussion, the Plasma vs LCD debate is no doubt a hot topic. In stores such as Best Buy the sales rep will tell you which is better depending on which led Televisons they want off of the shelf at that moment.

Both are very sleek and clean in design and can be mounted with a tv wall mount, both can produce outstanding picture quality, and both technologies have improved significantly in the past couple of years. Each their strengths depending on the types of viewing situations. I will discuss the pros and cons of both and you will know which one is best suited for your needs.

Myths
The ongoing debate between proponents of LCD and plasma results in some myths being said by both sides.

Lifespan
You might hear some people say that plasma TVs has only enough lifespan to carry the TV out the door. While this was once true with early versions of plasma TV technology, it is no longer an issue. Newer plasma TVs have a rated lifespan of about 60,000 Hours! That can be between up to 15 to 55 years depending on how you use it. The average daily television viewing is 5 hours a day. That equates to about a 27 year lifespan on average for new plasma TVs which is about the same as LCD TVs.

Burn In?
While newer anti-burn technology has contributed to a significant improvement with plasma TVs for leading manufacturers, I would still avoid leaving static images on the screen for more than 10 minutes just to be safe. So if you are a gamer or watch a lot of news, an LCD TV might be the better option for you since burn-in is not an issue with LCD TVs.

Picture Quality and Value
If you are looking to buy a flat panel TV over 50?, plasma has the better value. Plasma TVs over 50? can be found for about 30% less than LCD TVs over 50?. In addition, many videophiles will tell you Plasma has a better PQ with its high contrast ratio and deeper blacks.

Contrast
LCD TVs are known to be brighter than Plasma TVs. This makes LCD TVs the better choice in rooms with lots of light. Plasma TVs are known to have darker blacks which makes it the better choice in low light settings.

Plasma has slightly better black levels, slightly better contrast ratio, and wider viewing angles making it a great choice for home theaters. On the other hand, LCD has the edge for every day TV viewing, use as a computer monitor, video games, and it will look better in lighted rooms.

Choose Plasma If:

You like warm colors with deep black levels.You don’t play video games or watch shows with static images on the screen.You are viewing in a low light setting or dark room

Sony BRAVIA Z Series KDL-46Z5100 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV Get it now!

I had thought that TVs weren't much different from one to the next, primarily because of the reviews on Amazon. Everybody seems to think just about every flat screen is awesome. But this TV convinced me there are significant differences.

I hear constant arguments about what makes a difference to the viewer. You can read the forum debates until you are blue in the face. But what it comes down to is how the product performs for you, and this product truly shocked me.

The only thing I didn't appreciate is that ads imply it is wireless, and it is only wireless if you buy a wireless adapter. Sony does this with some of their stereo setups as well, saying they are wireless, but after you buy them you find out you have to buy an expensive addition to make them wireless.

Now, for the review, which is rather simplistic. Honestly. like most people, I bought a TV to watch, and I want to feel as though it is a great TV because I have to live with it for years to come.

I bought a Sharp 46" first after I read some great comments on it and there was a door buster deal at Walmart on the TV. I got it for $698. We used it for about two weeks, and I was constantly disappointed with it. Certain aspects of the picture were distracting. A graininess in the background, a blurriness when overlays occurred (like when they flash the station's logo on the screen), and an inability to deal with panning effectively, resulting in a jumpy image.

I would have kept the Sharp, but I got a deal on this TV at Amazon that was quite good. So I bought it, thinking if I didn't like it as much as the Sharp, I could find someone that wanted it. I was blown away. The design is way more beautiful than the Sharp and the picture is shockingly brilliant. Side by side, there is just no comparison. The graininess is only present in large black areas, something inherent to LCD, but there is no blurriness, and panning is perfect. Perhaps that is the quality of the display, perhaps the 240 Hz refresh rate or possibly Sony's algorithm to smooth the picture. All I know is the effect is vastly more pleasant to watch.

The remote is large and plays well with other Sony products. If you have other Sony components, the TV recognizes them which is kind of cool. It is internet capable, providing Netflix and other internet TV features that make it a cut above most other TVs.

The menus are nicely designed and intuitive. Setup is simple, except perhaps finding some well hidden connectors on the side of the TV. It also has an integrated TV Guide. That is also way cool for TV viewing directly from an HDTV Antenna.

My only complaint so far, and I am hoping I find a good solution, is that when it is hooked up to my computer, some stray colors appear. For example, black text can have red mixed in or sometimes blue. This only seems to happen with blacks and was not noticeable at all on the Sharp. I am hoping this is just a driver issue in Windows, because it is using the generic monitor driver.

But honestly, I knew we were hooked on this TV when we realized we were just staring at the commercials rather than fast forwarding past them. The picture is absolutely hypnotic.

This is the second of three Vizio TV’s I have purchased in the past four years and I must say these TV’s are hard to beat for the price! It’s hard to knock the easy to use controls and excellent picture on a TV that beats out many competitors TV’s prices by at least a third of the cost.

The TV also has excellent sound from the mounted speakers which on many other brands were far inferior. I own four LCD TVs three of them are made by Vizio and they are certainly worth looking into especially when you’re on a budget. I have read some reviews about the TV’s breaking down and I can only tell you from my own experience, that all three of my Vizios have performed above expectations without any break downs what so ever.

Every manufacturer is going to have defective sets and most warrantees are the same regardless of who makes them. If you’re on a budget (and who isn’t these days?) look into Vizio. I have a new 240hz Vizio set that is one of the best pictures I’ve ever seen.

After doing a lot of research we decided to go with Vizio rather than one of the typical name brands. Also side by side viewing comparison helped clinch the deal. It’s a great TV, quality picture & sound at a reasonable price. With what it cost to go to the movies now days it has been worth the cost of the flat screen TV to have a quality movie viewing experience at home. We have been so impressed with this TV that we ended up purchasing a 37? Vizio for the bedroom. While originally looking at flat screen TVs we weren’t sure if we wanted to go with plasma or LCD. The plasma TVs have a shiny screen; so there would be reflections from every window & light source reflecting off the shiny plasma screen. I was a bit apprehensive about the matt screen of the LCD. Yes you get deeper blacks with plasma, but in the end we made the right choice going with the LCD since we didn’t want to contend with reflections bouncing off the screen. Vizio makes a nice quality product at a good price.

I would like everyone to know that I purchased two Visio TV’s and 14 months after the purchase, my 42? TV went out., ie the power supply burned up. I called Visio and after a half hour of automated voice prompts, I was finally able to talk to a human. I explained my dilemma and was told that there was nothing they could do for me, as the warranty was expired. I advised that I didn’t feel the power supply should have burned up in 14 months and he advised that he was sorry, the warranty was for 12 months and he would not honor anything after that date. So I am asking everyone to look at this information as a warning not to purchase an inferior product.

Philips? latest mid-range TV, the 40in 40PFL7605, doesn?t have a Freeview HD tuner. Sorry to start so abruptly, but we really need to get this bare fact out there right away, just so there can be no confusion about it later, and so that people dead set on having a Freeview HD tuner built into their next telly have the option to stop reading now and move along to something else.

Just before all you Freeview HD lovers out there pop off, though, it?s worth pausing momentarily to consider whether Philips? unquestionably short-sighted omission of Freeview HD tuners on all of its current and upcoming TVs really ought to be considered an instant deal breaker.

For as we?ll discover, in many ways the 40PFL7605H is a startlingly accomplished TV, considerably better in picture and sound terms than arguably any of its rivals. So dismissing it for the missing tuner might actually be cutting off your nose to spite your face, especially as external Freeview HD tuners aren?t exactly megabucks these days.

Anyway, we?re getting way ahead of ourselves here. So let?s get right back to basics by saying that the 40PFL7605H is a startlingly attractive TV for a mid-range model. Its distinctive grey frame with neatly rounded corners and fashionable outer transparent ?shroud? differs pleasingly from any other ?look? right now.

The screen is also extremely slender - under 30mm deep for a good portion of its rear - a result of using edge LED lighting. This makes it the first mid-range Philips TV to adopt this trendy tech.

Even better, despite the screen?s slenderness Philips has retained a ?stereo? incarnation of its increasingly clever Ambilight technology. It?s worth noting, too, that the Ambilight system features the newly introduced wall colour adaptability, where you can tell the TV what colour the wall behind your TV is so it can ?remix? its colours accordingly.

The only problem with the 40PFL7605?s exterior materialises while you?re fixing it to its stand or the wall. For it squeaks and ?scrunches? quite alarmingly while being manhandled, raising questions about its underlying build quality.

Connectivity is outstanding, however. Given the need to add an external HD tuner, it?s nice to find things leading off with a healthy four HDMIs - one built to v1.4 spec for Audio Return Channel functionality.

The set also sports a USB port that can either take Philips? optional USB Wi-Fi adaptor (the PTA01), or else play back a wide variety of photo, music and video codecs. These include JPEG, WMA, AAC, H264/MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV9/VC1 and the AVI and MKV containers. All of which really highlights the inadequacies of the multimedia ?support? reported with the Toshiba 40SL753 a couple of days ago.

Impressively for a mid-range TV, the 40PFL7605H also allows you to play the same sorts of codecs from networked, DLNA PCs via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. And even better, we?re pleased and surprised to find that the TV gives you access to Philips? Net TV platform.

Samsung LE40C650

A few weeks back we looked at Samsung?s 32in LE32C580 and found ourselves feeling slightly disappointed. The set just didn?t seem to have advanced from last year?s equivalent Samsung models, and maybe even seemed to have slipped back a touch.

We wrapped that review up by wondering if the new step-up C650 series would suffer the same fate. And today we?re able to find out, courtesy of the 40in LE40C650.

As with the C580 model, the LE40C650 is attractive without being quite as aggressively inventive and stylish as some previous Samsung efforts. The best bits are the application of a transparent outer trim around the glossy, almost glass-like black bezel; the transparent neck to the desktop stand; and the infusion of a touch of red, especially into the little arc that drops down from the centre section of the TV?s bottom edge.

It?s impossible, though, not to feel slightly disappointed by the chunky rear end sported by the CCFL LCD LE40C650 when considered against the impossibly svelte profiles of Samsung?s edge LED models. That said, the extra bulk becomes much easier to swallow when you fix in your mind the fact that the LE40C650 costs under ?630 - a fraction of the price of the edge LED models.

The LE40C650?s connectivity is impressive. Four HDMIs are on hand for your HD sources, for instance, plus there?s extensive multimedia support from two USB ports, a D-Sub PC input, and an Ethernet jack.

The Ethernet jack?s first call of duty is as a necessary accessory to the LE40C650?s built-in Freeview HD tuner. But happily it goes much further than that, adding both DLNA PC access and - in a significant improvement over the C580 model - a means of getting Samsung?s Internet@TV platform.

This platform scored highly in our recent article comparing the current online TV systems, and its content continues to impress. Particularly outstanding is its provision of the BBC iPlayer, which remains a rarity among ringfenced online TV systems (though Sony also launched the service this very week). Other main providers of note are LoveFilm.com, Facebook, Twitter, Picasa and YouTube, plus there?s a striking number of small Widget Apps and games.

The interface for the growing amount of online content is starting to look and feel rather cumbersome and dated, it has to be said, but it?s functional.

It?s worth adding here that you don?t have to use the Ethernet to access Internet@TV, for you can also cough up for an optional extra Wi-Fi dongle that slots into one of the USB ports. These ports can also be used for playing back a good variety of photo, music and video file formats, including DivX, XviD and .WMVs.

Samsung UE55C9000

If you?re looking for a gleaming example of just how ambitious Samsung has got these days, you need look no further than the UE55C9000.

Arguably more than any TV before - including stuff from the likes of Loewe and B&O - the UE55C9000 is more an objet d?art than a TV, wearing innovation, opulence and 'because we can' bravado out there on its gleaming, frankly unbelievably thin sleeve. It?s the sort of design statement that deep-pocketed people with gorgeous homes and images to keep will simply have to own - regardless of whether it?s actually any good or not!

The pictures accompanying this review really don?t do justice to just how astonishing a sight the UE55C9000 is. The main reason for this is, of course, its truly spectacular combination of an almighty 55in screen with a depth of just 7.98mm. This depth makes the TV more or less as deep as your average pencil.

Not surprisingly, supporting such a large screen with such a slim chassis means that chassis has to be seriously well made. So the bodywork is constructed from brushed titanium, with a metallic chassis and bezel that appears hewn - with immense skill and care - from a single block of metal. Again, words or pictures can?t remotely do justice to just how iconic this finish looks when applied to such a slender form.

If we appear to be banging on about the design, we make no apologies for it. For the simple fact of the matter is that the way the UE55C9000 looks is the single most important thing about it in terms of what it stands for and who it?s made for.

The stunning screen comes bolted onto a similarly stunning desktop stand (upon which the screen can be rotated), though an ingenious wall mount option is also available. The stand supplied with our set is more interesting than most, too, because it has all the set?s connections built into it. This is actually hardly surprising when you start contemplating the problems of trying to fit any jacks into a screen 8mm deep.

Sockets include four HDMIs (all built to the v1.4 spec), two USBs, an antenna jack, and an Ethernet port that allows you to do various things we?ll get into later. Some of the sockets available, such as the Ethernet port, a SCART port, a D-Sub PC port and the component video port, are only usable via provided mini adaptors.

As you might guess from some of these connections, the UE55C9000?s slenderness isn?t remotely the only thing it?s got going for it. In fact, Samsung has squeezed one heck of a feature count into the UE55C9000?s unbelievably slender form.

Probably the single most significant - or trendy, depending on your point of view! - feature is 3D playback. This really is built in too; the necessary 3D transmitter exists within the TV, rather than being some bolt-on extra unit. It?s a pity, though, that even for ?5,600 (or as much as a grand more at some places online) Samsung only includes a single pair of active shutter 3D glasses with the TV (confirm they're included!) when we wouldn?t have minded two sets finished in Swarovski crystals for that sort of money!

The set also sports a Freeview HD tuner, of course, and the Ethernet port or provided USB Wi-Fi dongle additionally allow you to stream in multimedia content stored on a networked DLNA PC. These two network connections also allow you hook into Samsung?s ever-expanding and now really rather excellent Internet@TV online platform. Recent additions of Twitter and, especially, the BBC iPlayer have really boosted this service, with other key services including Facebook, LoveFilm, YouTube and the Picasa online photo album service.

Toshiba Regza 40SL753

With Toshiba seemingly focussing more and more on becoming the leading budget TV brand, its once impressive reputation for innovation - at least where its UK operation is concerned - has been on the wane. And in one way the 40SL753 merely confirms this, for by being Toshiba?s very first edge LED TV, it immediately causes us to reflect on just how long it?s been since we saw the first edge LED TVs from the likes of Sony, Philips, Samsung, LG and, to a lesser extent, Panasonic.

Basically, the 40SL753?s arrival is long overdue. So it would be nice if it proves that Toshiba has been using its extra development time wisely in coming up with something a bit special.

Hopes that this may be so are reduced, however, by its lowly price of just ?612.70 - something we noticed about the 40SL753 actually well before we figured out its edge LED lighting. This price would look reasonably affordable on a normal CCFL LCD TV, never mind an edge LED model, and it immediately raises worries over what sort of price-driven compromises we might come across.

On the other hand, of course, if the 40SL753D turns out to be much cop, it will be a major bargain. Fingers crossed.

The 40SL753?s design is notably slimmer than the distinctly chunky butt efforts of most of Toshiba?s current CCFL LCD TVs, as we would expect. Though at around 50mm, its depth still has a long way to reduce until it gets close to the ultra-slender edge LED efforts we?re seeing these days from LG, Philips and especially Samsung and JVC. So much as JVC still actually has a UK TV operation these days, at any rate...

Toshiba has also marked its edge LED debut by tweaking the 40SL753?s fascia design, equipping the dark bezel with a transparent outer trim that ends up making the TV pleasingly reminiscent of the look Samsung is using for the mainstream end of its current LCD range.

Turning the 40SL753 round uncovers a good collection of connections. Four HDMIs get the ball rolling, one of which is v1.4 to offer an audio return channel to compatible AV amps. But actually far more interesting are a pair of USB ports, an SD card slot, and an Ethernet port.

These provide, as you would expect, a selection of multimedia features. But sadly the support they offer is more restrictive than we would have hoped. For instance, the USBs and SD card slot can only play JPEG photos, not movie or music files. Worse, while the Ethernet port is capable of streaming in stuff from DLNA PCs, these PCs have to use Windows 7. And even then we found the number of file types the TV worked with extremely limiting.

Samsung UE65C8000

Amazingly, it?s now already almost six months since we got our hands on our first 3D TV: Samsung?s 55in UE55C8000. A set that left us feeling impressed, aside from a few reservations.

However, the 3D world certainly hasn?t been standing still since April. So when we were offered the chance to look at the UE55C8000?s recently launched bigger brother - yes, that?s BIGGER brother - we jumped at it.

Of course, it didn?t exactly dent our enthusiasm that the 65in UE65C8000 happens to be the biggest 3D LCD TV yet, bringing LCD into line with the largest 3D plasma we?ve seen to date, Panasonic?s 65in P65VT20.

As with almost all Samsung?s 3D LCD TVs, the UE65C8000 uses edge LED lighting. And as usual with Samsung, the technology has been used to deliver a genuinely gobsmacking, ultra slim (under 30mm) design, given extra pizazz - as if it were needed - by a glorious brushed metallic silver bezel with transparent outer trim.

What?s more, having so slender a rump sitting behind so massive a hunk of screen merely emphasises Samsung?s technological - and iconic - accomplishment with its current edge LED designs.

Not that the UE65C8000 is only a pretty face.

For instance, it also comes packing some pretty extensive picture management facilities. Particularly welcome is the extent to which you can play with Samsung?s Motion Plus video processing engine. Motion processing systems can often cause as many problems as they solve, and different people have different tolerances to what motion processing can deliver. So it?s really excellent to find that as well as three basic levels of Motion Plus ?power?, you can also manually tweak the judder and blur processing elements. Personally we preferred to use the Clean preset, or manually keep the judder processing pretty low but the blur processing fairly high.

We were also very happy to find a sliding gamma control, the tools to adjust the red, green and blue balance of each of the six primary video colours, and the crucial (for accurate calibration) ability to adjust the offset and gain levels of the red, green and blue image elements, and tweak the white balance further using the increasingly common 10-point system.

As usual with a Samsung TV, the UE65C8000 also scores very highly for its multimedia capabilities. These lead off with access to Samsung?s highly impressive Internet@TV service, offering a wide variety of genuinely useful ring-fenced content such as the BBC iPlayer, YouTube, LoveFilm, Facebook, Google Maps, Picasa, Skype and Twitter.

You can also play back a diversity of multimedia file types from either a connected DLNA PC or USB sticks, with further use for the two provided USB ports coming from both the option to add a wi-fi dongle and the option to record from the built-in Freeview HD tuner to a compatible USB HDD.

Recordings made this way are of the pure digital bitstream, and so are flawless in quality, and Samsung is more flexible with the USB HDDs it supports than Panasonic?s USB recorder TVs. You can still only play things you?ve recorded back on to the TV you recorded them from, though; you can?t record TV shows to USB for watching on external portable devices.

Sharp Aquos LC-22DV200E

Most TVs that get installed in second rooms - kitchens, conservatories, offices, bedrooms etc - are generally criminally underused. Not necessarily in terms of the sheer hours they?re watched for, but certainly when it comes to exploiting their full potential.

The main reason for this is simply that people don?t want to clutter up the space around their space-saving second TV with further boxes containing external sources. Which is precisely why products like Sharp?s LC-22DV200E make such great sense. For here you get a tidy, highly portable 22in LCD TV screen with a DVD slot cunningly tucked down its left side. So instead of, say, having to suffer the Jeremy Kyle show while you cook up a storm in the kitchen, you can stick on your favourite film instead, without having to mess your work surfaces up with an external DVD player.

The DVD deck has been niftily integrated into the 22DV200E, moreover, in that its inclusion hasn?t led to such a chunky rear end as we often see on combi TV products. In fact, the 22DV200E is quite a cutie aesthetically, with its glossy black finish, funky little stand and endearing arc along the bottom edge. If you get up close, its finish is a touch plasticky, but not offensively so.

Connections are a touch disappointing, though. For a start, unlike the 26in and 32in models in the DV200E range, the 22in model only has one HDMI input. Though to be fair, the inclusion of a DVD player within the TV?s own chassis reduces the need for more HDMIs to some degree.

It?s also disappointing, however, to find that a USB port on the DV200E?s rear is only there for Service use, and can?t be used for any multimedia purposes. Being able to play photos from USB memory sticks is always a handy trick for a second-room TV, in our opinion.

The TV isn?t wholly without multimedia functionality, though. For as well as a welcome D-Sub PC input, the built-in DVD deck is capable of playing JPEG photos, MP3 and WMA audio files, and standard def DivX video files burned onto DVD-R/RW or CD-R/RW discs. Plus, of course, as music CDs and DVD movies.

The 22DV200E?s screen is lit using conventional CCFL technology, and manages to squeeze an HD Ready pixel count of 1,366 x 768 into its reasonably small screen area. The TV also has a Freeview tuner, as we would expect - though this doesn?t extend to Freeview?s new HD platform.

With the latest wave of TVs now erupting onto the market, the LG 47LX9900 is one of the latest models to be released and with built in Freeview and 3D ready, this entertainment system incorporates the latest features available.

LG, a supplier historically regarded in the industry as being more competitive in the budget end of the market, whilst retaining the economical price tag are now offering models with high-end features.

When purchasing a new TV, picture quality is one of the most important features and one which can be compromised somewhat by market demand for ever-slimmer models.

Part of the Infinia range, the LG 55LX9900 is only 31mm deep, meaning that, slimmer than many picture frames, it is ideally suited for wall mounting. This is a facility which enables the consumer to access selected sites on the internet (via the home network using the Ethernet connection or using the USB port and an optional dongle).
As well as browsing popular sites such as YouTube or checking the weather forecast, users can also share photos online using the Picasa application.

On a practical note, the LG55LX9900 has four HDMI sockets including one very handily located on the side of the TV (with the remainder on the rear), a USB port plus the usual component and optical inputs.
