The Lg Infiniatm LX9500 47 Inch 3D TV, wth amazing 480Hz sceen refresh - taking 3D pictures to a new level.

Since the incredible box office success of 3-D movies like Star Trek, Avatar and Monster Inc, the demand for 3D TV at home has definitely been on the increase. This can be witnessed by he numbr of 3D TVs now avaialbe and the marked increase in content being released on 3D Blu Ray and via Satellite. However, some of the early 3D sets tended to be a bit blury around
the egdes. This was particularly so if the action was fast paced (like sport) or if an image was "moving towards you". I really noticed this watching rugby when a try was being scored "in the corner" and as the two bodies flew out of the screen towards me they definitely went very blurred, in fact it was almost a double or treble image.

But thankfully technology continues to move forward. And now LG have introduced the Infiniatm range with 480Hz picture that looks to be yet another quantum leap in HD generally and 3D picture technology particularly.

The picture quality is amazing. Full 1080p HD but at 480Hz refresh as opposed to the previous maximum of 240Hz, a doubling of the image refresh rate. This is really moving 3D technology to a new and higher level. I have run out of "picture superlatives" and I am just amazed that HD TV pictures are still getting better. The LG Infiniatm LX9500 47 Inch 3D TV boasts a picture quality that is simply out of this world. I honestly didn't believe pictures could get better over the top of the range Samsung 240Hz 1080ps, but LG have managed it. And it is most noticeable in the 3D space.

I'm sure the rest will advance to 480 Hz as well, but at this sort of price? Under $3,300 when a 240Hz 3D from Samsung is still pushing $5k? I think the competition will find it tough to compete, and I was interested to hear from my HD TV chum Brad in the U.K that Sky TV (the dominant pay per view satellite broadcaster in the UK) have made LG their 3D TV "partner". Sky are very powerful in the U.K and this will boost LG's sale massively over there.

The LG Full LED 3D TV Infinia LX9500 is a stunning piece of kit and surprisingly easy to use and set up.

With the latest Infinia design from LG and at only 31mm deep this TV blow away the notion that direct LED TVs have to be wider than edge LED-lit models. The LX9500 comes equipped with "NetCast" Entertainment Access, that allopws you to view the Internet directly to your TV. And what a nice touch this is...you actually get two pairs of active shutter 3D glasses with the LG Infiniatm LX9500 47 Inch 3D TV as well. not only doe sthis allow you to get right into the amazing world of 3D sports, video games, documentaries and Blockbuster movies, but it saves you $200-300 into the bargain!

LG call the new TruMotion 480Hz "A revolution in picture quality", and I am inclined to agree. 3D motion blur is almost completely eliminated giving you a far clearer over-all picture in 3D, particularly fast action sequences and when images do seem pop out of the screen at you...as I said this has been a slight issue on early 3D sets.

Normal 2D viewing is stunning - I can't think of any other way to put it...perhaps I'll have to go back to some of my older Hubs and "tone down the rhetoric"! I'm sure I've said this before, but...it's like looking thru the cleanest imaginable window on the brightest day possible. It's awesome! The color just screams off of the screen and the blacks are so black with a contrast
that is infinitely sharp. This is an amazing viewing experience, and all at just over $3k.

If you're thinking of joining the 3D revolution the LG Infiniatm LX9500 47 Inch 3D TV could not be a better starting point, it's an amazing viewing experience and a superb introduction to 3D TV - enjoy!

The Panasonic TCP54G25 54 Inch Plasma TV - surprisingly good!

I was an early adopter of HD TV with an LG Plasma TV. The contrast between the new HD TVs and the old Cathod Ray Tube sets was a stunning leap forward. We were into new relams of picture brightness, sharpness, clarity and vibrancy of color. But there were problems in those early Plasmas.

For example, screen burn was a major issue, the sports channel frames are now well burnt into the screen of my very first LG Plasma TV! There was also a major issue with light reflection. It always used to irk me that when I was watching hockey or soccer I could see the reflection of the small window that sat at the back of the room slightly to the side of the TV!

So, it was in eager anticipation of seeing my brother-in-laws new Panasonic Viera 54 Inch Plasma as we set off for our Christmas trip to see him and his family in Vancouver. The burning question (pun totally intended) was...why Plasma?

I just couldn't understand why he had gone Plasma with the price of LEDs dropping all the time. LED perfromance is accepted as the best and I was all too aware of the inhenrent Plasma problems. And, there isn't the 3D option wth Plasma. I was also a little worried that he'd gone too big on screen given the size of his viewing area.

However, when I saw this TCP54G25 in action I needn't have worried. Our first exposure was Inception via Blu Ray. And despite my potential prejudice I am delighted to say that the Viera produced a stunning performance. Inception is a pretty good movie to demonstrate the finer points of any TV, but I was genuinely surprised at how well this Panasonic 54 Inch Plasma TV performed.

Panasonic will tell you that their new NeoPDP technology is responsible for the great definition between blacks and whites and the amazing contrast on colors. They'll also tell you that the full 1080p HD with "600Hz resolution sub drive" will give you the best motion clarity. And I agree with that, the HD picture is as close as anything I have seen to LED on a non LED set.

I was also a bit worried that I'd notice a degree of picture degradation watching so close to such a big screen. However the set performed superbly well with a crisp and clear picture, even when the action was break-neck followed by stills (Inception has a few scenes like this). And the colors were bright with deep contrast.

My first Plasma is definitely on the wane. It's five years old now and has had a lot of use, so to be expected. However this new Panasonic has an amazing screen life of 100,000 hours (quoted on an average vieweing day of 8 hours - which is hopefully an over-estimation of the amount of viewing we actually do). Panasonic suggest this model will last 30 years before the picture quality has halved. If that is true it is definitely good value.

On hearing those figures I did a bit of research and found out that Panasonic recently brought Pioneers advanced Plasma technology. That new technology is in this model. Certainly the tech boasts are backed up by the performance I saw, only time will tell on screen life.

The TV itself is feature rich boasting features you normally see on much more expensive sets. It has the ability to play online content via a direct ethernet link. As with most HD sets if you want wi-fi you need to buy a separate adapter. This has become a bit of a bug bear of mine as I really think an HD set should include integral wi-fi!

However you do get the advanced picture technology, the infinite black technology, THX mode, Viera Link (which allows you to interlink attached devices) and an oustanding game mode. The nephews are BIG gamers (they have every console) and I have to say watching their latest addiction (one of the Halo games) it boasts one of the best game modes I have seen. They were also playing a hilarous skateboard game and it really was stomach churning watching some of more outrageous moves.

The connectivity on this set is basic, indeed there are only 3 HDMI ports, when 4 seems to be the norm on most sets today. Panasonic argue that Viera Link ensues 3 is all you need!

During our stay in Vancouver Graham's new Panasonic 54 Inch Plasma provided us with plenty of great entertainment. After all those winter nights up there are so dark and wet! Coupled with some nice red wine (so very expensive in BC) my preconceived prejudices were blown away.

Seeing a big Plasma up close and personal has definitely made me mellow towards Plasmas in general. I wouldn't have given a 54 inch Plasma a second glance before seeing the TCP54G25 in all honesty. Add to this the fact the price is mid range and therefore very attractive for such a large screen size and you have an exceptional deal. And I am pleased to see sets like this closing the price v performance gap with LEDs.

ViewSonic VT2430 24 Inch LCD TV

Brilliant picture performance on the ViewSonic VT2430 24 Inch LCD TV. Ideal for small bedrooms, spare rooms, as a PC monitor of for the college dorm.

One of the main complaints I have against the major HD TV producers is the lack of smaller sets. So, I was interested to have an in depth look at the ViewSonic VT2430 24 inch LCD TV with a view to getting one for the spare room.

With my old LG Plasma offering the TV in the marital bedroom, it felt only fair we should at least offer Tv in he guest room, but what to buy, that's where the ViewSonic VT2430 24 Inch LCD TV comes in.

Small and beautifully put together with full 1080p HD, which sort of surprised me on such a small set. What it does mean, of course, is that the picture is quite stunning. 1080p on a 24 inch screen really does need to be seen to be believed. The picture was crisp and clear, and amazingly the ViewSonic VT2430 24 inch LCD TV also offer a contrast ratio of 8000:1 which means the picture remains crips and clean even when the action is fast paced. True the refresh is only 60 Hz, but with the smaller screen this really does not have any detremental effect on picture performance.

I've said in numerous of my HD TV reviews that screen blur has been a tarditional problem for LCD TVs. However, this has been cured by the higher contrast ratios on newer LCD sets. So, the 8000:1 ratio makes viewing sport or action movies an absolute delight on this little beauty. It is also coupled with a 5ms (millisecond) screen response rate which also ensures any screen blur is totally eradicated, and certainly overcomes any doubts I might have had on the 60Hz refresh rate.

I was also hugely impressed by the natural but bright colors and the richness of the blacks. LCD has again traditionally been a bit "gray" in the black zone, but the ViewSonic VT2430 maintains dark, deep blacks giving excellent contrast with the beautiful colors.

What else? Well, it also boasts and internal HDTV tuner for free to air HD channels. This helps considerbaly given that there is only one HMDI input (it does have S-Video input as well), but in truth the set could probably do with an extra HDMI.

But the ViewSonic VT2430 24 Inch LCD TV can also act as a PC monitor and works superbly well as a games monitor, although you will have to use the one HDMI port for all uses so a bit of chopping and changing is required. The same applies for hooking up a Blu-Ray, you'll have to use the one port, but the picture is outstanding from Blu-Ray DVD, But...that is (in my humble opinion) a small price to pay given the performance you get.

And...talking of small prices. The ViewSonic VT2430 24 Inch LCD comes up at a remarkable $359. That in itself is incredible for an HD TV, but what surprised me even more is that some of the online prices were as low as $239!!

So...I got one! For the spare room.

Now, when the children come round, I see even less of them as they disappear to the spare room to play games or watch TV! Sometimes you just can't win...and they always leave the room in a mess!

Seriously though, if you need a small TV for the kitchen, spare room, the office or perhaps the college dorm, then this is a great LCD TV at an unbeatable price. I really do applaud companies like ViewSoft and Vizio for making these great smaller HD sets. There really is a niche that the Sonys and Samsungs have missed out on - delivering high quality small HD TV's at really low prices.

Panasonic Viera TCP50G25

So, to the TV itself! It comes with a swivel stand, back lit remote (with batteries) a deatailed instruction manual and a quick start guide.

Set up was really easy. Panasonic have even made the bo easy to manage as well, that's got to be a first! There are some plastic clips integrated with the box that flip off allowing you to remove the entire lid with ease, excellent ease of use!

Getting the screen on to the swivel stand was easier than I thought. Ideally you need a hand from someone, but the set irtself is nice and light and it slips in easily.
So, let's lay the final ghost of Plasmas to rest shall we? The room I set my Panasonic Viera TC-P50G25 Plasma up in is big and it's bright. Once I'd got down to the last three TV sets I was intersted in I pulled a few strings and got some of my AV friends to let me have home demos.

O.K, I know this isn't an advantage most people have, but...this was a big purchase for
me and I needed to watch my Chelsea games with exactly the right colour (color - Ed) and brightness. It was a key feature for me to have a bright, clear, crisp and contrast full picture. And I was worried about what I'd heard about a Plasma set in a bright room. I needn't have worried! The picture was amazing especially for watching football (it's soccer Brad - Ed) and other sport.

Football (sorry - Ed) is a colouful (ah, I give up, excuse the English - Ed) spectacular and it was the colour of the World Cup that made me decide HD was the way forward having watched many of the games in HD. So, I was delighted with how bright and vibrant the picture remianed even on a bright sunny day and yes we do occassionally get them in England! The action was crisp and crystal clear, and I was sold.

And, with an added anti-glare feature, the screen reduces the natural reflective characteristics of glass down to virtually none.

Samsung LN52A650 52 inch LCD TV

The Samsung LN52A650 LCD TV...Great picture performance at an affordable price.

When it was released this TV range was up on the $4500 price range, and that was a lot of money to spend on a HDTV. However LCD TV prices have tumbled over the last two years and the amazing features that enhance the quality of this TV now easily justify the amount of money you are about to spend.

During tests the Samsung LN52A650 impressed with its minimal pixelation in the background scenes and excelled When it came to high definition DVD providing outstanind scores in all categories. Skin tone is life-like, and physical features make everything look very realistic. Skin coloring on HDTV has been a perenial problem, but Samunsg do now seem to have got this issue sorted on their LCD TVs. 

The brightness and contrast levels are good and have god control with the Samsung LN52A650 scoring above average in these key picture areas. Picture detail is excellent, especially in the dark areas of the screen, even if you watch a movie with a poor quality. However, in keeping with most HD sets if you switch to standard definition, particularly for
sport, the picture deteriorates badly.

One thing that works extremely well on the LN52A650 is the backlighting, which gave deeper and better quality blacks than fluorescent backlit TVs. Check it out by using the option in the on-screen menu which lets you set to half screen; you will then be able to see the amazing contrast with your own eyes! However, make sure that you turn on the feature because its
default setting is off.

There are various presets for you to choose from, like Dynamic or Movie mode; the DNIe setting, which means Digital Natural Image engine, reduces the background noise and makes images more detailed with its contrast enhancement. You will also find options like White Balance (with RGB settings for color temperature) and My Color Control with settings for each of the colors pink, blue, white, and green. It's worth having a "play around" with these to get the pciture exactly as you want it.

In common with all HD TVs the audio quality is fair but, unfortunately, not excellent. It's difficult to hear really low sounds and is a bit "tinny" higher up in the treble scale. But this is normal with HD TVs and you'll probably want to get a surround sound system hooked up, they are petty cheap these days so in all honesty the sound is not an issue.

There are various inputs that you get: three HDMI, two composite and two sets of component. The USB port ensures that you can watch pictures or listen to music through your HDTV.

When analyzing the remote, most buttons are black; only few have back light and some of them are colored. The remote is black and is rather stylish in it's design. Compared to other remotes, this one has smaller buttons but they have a well organized structure making navigation easy and intuitive.

The Samsung LN52A650 is full 1080p HD although only 120Hz refresh rate. New image technology virtually eliminates screen blur during action sequences, even Hockey looks good on LCD nowadays!

If you are looking for a good performance HD TV, in the mid price range this is one of the best buys you can make. It's a great mix of technology, performance and price which makes the Samsung LN52A650 and overall good buy!

Samsung UN55C8000 3D LED TV

Having made the decision to "go 3D" I was beside myself with excitement when my new UN55C8000 duly arrived.

The new samsung "C" range, promising full real life 3D and more connectivity than you could shake a stick at. This TV has it all, well according to the sales puff it does. And, as it was eased out of the box, it looked oh so beautiful.

My wife and kids just stood in awe of this work of art. "Put it on Dad" cried an excited Jayne, "Yes, now, now, now" added Jordie.

"O.K, O.K, I'll need some time"...I just wasn't sure how much even as I looked at the stunning jack pack (4 HDMI, Anynet+, 2 x USB, PC Input, Ethernet, Optical Sound and Component Video)!

So, if you're gonna get one of these babys be pepared (and pepare your family) for an extended set up time, especially if you've not connected up HD TV and suround sound before!

Being a structured sort, I sat down and read the manual, and I have to say I'm glad I did.

With the amazing plethora of connectivity, including wireless connectivity to add to the surrond and Blu-Ray, it was quite a job. Plus there are a stack of "widgets" you can untlise as well, such as YouTube, Flickr and Yahoo. But the manual was reasonably good - but I am technical, so maybe that helped.

One of the things that did take time was configuring the TV to make old 2D images 3D. Now I am glad that I did this first, before we all watched true native 3D. The 2D converted pictures are not wonderful. There was quite a bit of blurring or double imaging...I think the technical term is "crosstalk".

Samsung 65 Inch 3D LED TV - Stunning picture clarity in both 2D and 3D

If you read my TV reviews regularly you'll know that one of my growing band of HD TV Buddies got himself an earlier version of this amazing Samsung 65 Inch 3D LED TV. I knew Tom was thinking about getting a new HD TV but I was surprised when he go the forerunner to this beauty the UN65C6500.

Now I went round for a viewing and depsite the fact it was only 120Hz, I was very pleasnatly surprised at the picture quality. There's no doubt it was a superb set in his large room setting (as my review atests).

However, now Samsung have gone the whole nine yards and come up with the updated 240Hz, 3D version the Samsung UN65C8000 3D LED TV. And just...WOW, what a TV it is. Samsung have put litrally everything into this model.

Their new "Ultra Clear Panel" picture technology is truly amazing. Samsung speak says this about it "Advanced technology (Ultra Clear Panel) lets you enjoy crisp image details, natural skin tones, excellent shadow detail, and vibrant colors".

So no matter what it took, I had to get a look for myself. It might take a bit of begging but I had to have a look, and, it's amazing what can happen if you ask the right questions. So, I went to see my chums at the local store and asked when they might be getting a Samsung UN65C8000 in? Incredibly, there was a trade show in Seattle, where it was being demo'd and with a little bit of begging so I managed to "blag" a free pass.

Talk about HD and 3D TV heaven, the first thing I did was make a beeline for the Samsung stand and there she was...in all her glory this wonderful new Samsung 65 Inch 3D LED TV. Beautiful!

Firstly let's talk about the picture. Whilst I know it is sales puff and boast, samsung are right about the picture, it is outstanding. I was really impressed with the skin tones, the reality of it and the way shadows looked, it was different.

So, what else do you get. Well obviously it's full 1080p, 240 Hz HD and the set is 3D ready. The demo of 3D with a true native 3D source and samsung Active 3D glasses was the same canyon demo I saw in London. The water splashes on the screen got me again! Then they played Star Trek (the latest film) in 3D. Again I had seen this before but it was still enjoyable.

I do like 3D, definitely, but being someone who wears glasses it does get a little uncomfortable after a while. And it's interesting that none of the promo advertising I've seen for 3D...anywhere, US, UK, Canada ever shows someone with two pairs of glasses. I dread to think how much prescription 3D glasses are going to cost if indeed they are possible. But at
the moment it looks to be either wear lenses or suffer. This issue has definitely been washd over by the advertising Gurus!

I do think 3D is here to stay though as more and more DVDs are produced in 3D and 3D programming starts to come over the airwaves.

Anyway...even the 2D picture is powerful. I think that's the right word, powerful.

The samsung Un65C8000 3D LED TV has every connectivity issue you could imagine covered. Internet@TV offers all of your favourite digital content at the press of the remote, you can connect up your digital camra or camcorder, access videos playlists and there is an enhanced game Mode which is stunning.

The Game Mode is better optimised than 7000 series LEDs (in my view) and I managed to get a preview of "Michael Jackson - The Experience" on Wii and it was huge fun and amazing game play quality.

There is also a digital tuner included so there's no need for a set top box and "AllShare" allows you to wirelessly sync up any other wireless device in the house. So you can store all of your music and film and have it eadily available.

So...I am now faced with a dilema :>) I want one of these! I did say I was going to hold back on 3D, and I don't think I am going to get the "spend" past Alison because at the moment this one is not cheap. Also, if I am brutally honest...my viewing space is too small for the Samsung 65 Inch 3D LED TV, but I still want one!

It's not a logical purchase - far from it, because the Samsung UN65C8000 is so beautiful both on and off. With the tinge of color in the dark slate surround and the way it springs into life with such a stunning clarity, all logic is transcended!

Now Darling, can I take you out for dinner tonight? Where would you like to go? Some champagne....

Sharp Quattron TVs to get Pioneer Elite branding

Sharp and Pioneer have announced that they will jointly be resurrecting the Eite brand of TVs for the American market.

Elite was known in AV circles as being one of the top TV brands around, but this came to an end in March 2010, when Pioneer stopped making televisions and in the process waved goodbye to both Elite and Kuro branding.

But now Elite is back and will be the name of a new line-up of Sharp Quattron TVs which both companies hope will become part of the lucrative custom install market.

High-end brand

"As a leader in large-screen LCD TVs, we are excited to collaborate with Pioneer to bring a high-end LCD TV to the Elite consumer," explained John Herrington, Sharp's president of marketing in the US.

"The Elite brand is highly respected in the high-end market, and Sharp can deliver the quality and innovation that Elite customers demand."

It will be interesting how well received the new line of TVs will be. For a start, Pioneer is synonymous with plasma technology, so seeing the Elite branding on an LED TV may irk some.

And then there's the fact that neither Pioneer or Sharp will have their names on the sets, they will simply be called Elite.

What this news does mean, though, is that there could be a slim chance that the Kuro brand may well be next to be dusted down.

Hannspree launches new LED TVs

Hannspree, everyone's favourite novelty TV manufacturer, has revealed a couple of serious new samsung LED TV review, known as the SV Series.

Available in a 32-inch and 42-inch screen size, the two LED idiot boxes include Hannspree's Vivid Motion 100Hz technology – this should result in smoother picture transitions and flicker-free films.

The Full HD 1080p displays have the super-wide viewing angle of 178 degrees and a 16:9 aspect ratio.

As with all TVs these days, there are ports galore – three HDMI, two Scart, a USB port for video input and component and VGA inputs too.

There's no internet connectivity on board, although you could get a set top box for this if you're into that kind of thing.

Unfortunately for some, the new models only come in boring rectangle, and not in squirrel or apple-shaped fascias. Still, they're slim and unassuming.

The SV series TVs are available now, with fairly reasonable UK pricing: £419.99 for the 32-inch and £549.99 for the 42-inch.

At just under 30mm thick and weighing just 10 kg, the Samsung UE32C6510 LED TV is one of the thinnest full HD televisions currently on the market.
With a 1920 x 1000 resolution and a white bezel, this set looks good on or off.

With full HD 1080p and Edge LED backlighting, Samsung have worked hard to bring visual clarity to the screen. Technology such as HyperReal Engine, Mega Dynamic Contrast and 100Hz Motion Plus (twice the number of image per second than regular televisions) all contribute to the optimum viewing experience.

The television has an Ultra Clear Panel meaning that only one sheet of glass is between the customer and the images, enabling optimum usage of the light in the room whilst decreasing reflection.
In addition, the LED backlighting combined with this technology also works to increase contrast where the system recognises it is necessary.

The Eco Sensor is a welcome touch, allowing the Samsung UE32C6510 to automatically assess the quality of light in the viewing room and calibrate the level of brightness being emitted accordingly.
This not only provides a greater degree of comfort on the eyes but also reduces unnecessary energy expenditure, helping both the environment and your bank balance.

Other automatic adjustments include a digital noise filter which improves the picture in poor transmission areas and Wide Colour Enhancer Plus, a pixel-busting feature which bring colours to life.

Despite not having 3D capability, the Samsung UE32C6510 has many other features to rival the top end models currently on the market.

Built in Freeview reduces the number of cables required and allows the customer to view programmes in true HD (where coverage is available in the country) with no contract and no hidden costs.

As a hybrid between TV and PC, this model enables connection to the internet via Samsung’s Internet@TV, allowing the user to browse many of the free and online services on the net. To connect either an Ethernet cable or a Dongle is required (available separately).

In other areas of multi-media, streaming of files such as video, music and photos is available together with direct downloads via the HDMI connection. Music files and photos can also be plugged directly into the set via a USB port. The television has 4 HDMI slots and 2 USB ports.

Samsung have recognised that viewing is now often from a variety of positions and so the screen is viewable from 45 degree angles. A white plastic stand matching the LED TV comes with the pack and the TV is suitable for either mounting (compatible with VESA 200 holdings) or for regular viewing, a TV stand is supplied at point of sale.

Also provided at the outset is the remote control. The technology incorporated into this handset means that all gadgets with corresponding Samsung capabilities can be controlled by this, negating the need for many different controllers.

Speakers on the television set are hidden and may not be immediately apparent. However, with surround sound technology, the speaker system is surprisingly good.

The model reviewed has the same specification as Samsungs C6530/C6540 range of LED TVs, the only difference being the colour of the outer bezel (frame of the panel).
So if you are looking for a quality set but aesthetic design requirements require a white surround to your telly then the UE32C6510 would fit the bill.

The Samsung led TV...Great picture performance at an affordable price.

When it was released this TV range was up on the $4500 price range, and that was a lot of money to spend on a HDTV. However LCD TV prices have tumbled over the last two years and the amazing features that enhance the quality of this TV now easily justify the amount of money you are about to spend.

During tests the Samsung LN52A650 impressed with its minimal pixelation in the background scenes and excelled When it came to high definition DVD providing outstanind scores in all categories. Skin tone is life-like, and physical features make everything look very realistic. Skin coloring on HDTV has been a perenial problem, but Samunsg do now seem to have got this issue sorted on their LCD TVs. 

The brightness and contrast levels are good and have god control with the Samsung LN52A650 scoring above average in these key picture areas. Picture detail is excellent, especially in the dark areas of the screen, even if you watch a movie with a poor quality. However, in keeping with most HD sets if you switch to standard definition, particularly for
sport, the picture deteriorates badly.

One thing that works extremely well on the LN52A650 is the backlighting, which gave deeper and better quality blacks than fluorescent backlit TVs. Check it out by using the option in the on-screen menu which lets you set to half screen; you will then be able to see the amazing contrast with your own eyes! However, make sure that you turn on the feature because its
default setting is off.

There are various presets for you to choose from, like Dynamic or Movie mode; the DNIe setting, which means Digital Natural Image engine, reduces the background noise and makes images more detailed with its contrast enhancement. You will also find options like White Balance (with RGB settings for color temperature) and My Color Control with settings for each of the colors pink, blue, white, and green. It's worth having a "play around" with these to get the pciture exactly as you want it.

In common with all HD TVs the audio quality is fair but, unfortunately, not excellent. It's difficult to hear really low sounds and is a bit "tinny" higher up in the treble scale. But this is normal with HD TVs and you'll probably want to get a surround sound system hooked up, they are petty cheap these days so in all honesty the sound is not an issue.

There are various inputs that you get: three HDMI, two composite and two sets of component. The USB port ensures that you can watch pictures or listen to music through your HDTV.

When analyzing the remote, most buttons are black; only few have back light and some of them are colored. The remote is black and is rather stylish in it's design. Compared to other remotes, this one has smaller buttons but they have a well organized structure making navigation easy and intuitive.

The Samsung LN52A650 is full 1080p HD although only 120Hz refresh rate. New image technology virtually eliminates screen blur during action sequences, even Hockey looks good on LCD nowadays!

If you are looking for a good performance HD TV, in the mid price range this is one of the best buys you can make. It's a great mix of technology, performance and price which makes the Samsung LN52A650 and overall good buy!

Samsung UN55C8000 3D LED TV

Having made the decision to "go 3D" I was beside myself with excitement when my new UN55C8000 duly arrived.

The new samsung led tv "C" range, promising full real life 3D and more connectivity than you could shake a stick at. This TV has it all, well according to the sales puff it does. And, as it was eased out of the box, it looked oh so beautiful.

My wife and kids just stood in awe of this work of art. "Put it on Dad" cried an excited Jayne, "Yes, now, now, now" added Jordie.

"O.K, O.K, I'll need some time"...I just wasn't sure how much even as I looked at the stunning jack pack (4 HDMI, Anynet+, 2 x USB, PC Input, Ethernet, Optical Sound and Component Video)!

So, if you're gonna get one of these babys be pepared (and pepare your family) for an extended set up time, especially if you've not connected up HD TV and suround sound before!

Being a structured sort, I sat down and read the manual, and I have to say I'm glad I did.

With the amazing plethora of connectivity, including wireless connectivity to add to the surrond and Blu-Ray, it was quite a job. Plus there are a stack of "widgets" you can untlise as well, such as YouTube, Flickr and Yahoo. But the manual was reasonably good - but I am technical, so maybe that helped.

One of the things that did take time was configuring the TV to make old 2D images 3D. Now I am glad that I did this first, before we all watched true native 3D. The 2D converted pictures are not wonderful. There was quite a bit of blurring or double imaging...I think the technical term is "crosstalk".

If you read my TV reviews regularly you'll know that one of my growing band of HD TV Buddies got himself an earlier version of this amazing Samsung 65 Inch 3D LED TV. I knew Tom was thinking about getting a new HD TV but I was surprised when he go the forerunner to this beauty the UN65C6500.

Now I went round for a viewing and depsite the fact it was only 120Hz, I was very pleasnatly surprised at the picture quality. There's no doubt it was a superb set in his large room setting (as my review atests).
